A bacterial disease that is spread by the Brown dog tick.

The most common symptoms are:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Depression
  • Fever
  • Painful joints
  • Bloody nose
  • Pale gums
  • If left untreated it can lead to:

  • Permanent blindness
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Bleeding complications
  • Death
  • There is a preventative (Frontline/Nexgard flea and tick – applied monthly) and a treatment for this disease.

    In 2017, of 1237 patients tested, 8 were positive at our hospital.
