Ehrlichiosis
A bacterial disease that is spread by the Brown dog tick.
The most common symptoms are:
Loss of appetite
Depression
Fever
Painful joints
Bloody nose
Pale gums
If left untreated it can lead to:
Permanent blindness
Autoimmune diseases
Bleeding complications
Death
There is a preventative (Frontline/Nexgard flea and tick – applied monthly) and a treatment for this disease.
In 2017, of 1237 patients tested, 8 were positive at our hospital.
